Kingsdown Woods
(Bluebell Woods)
|
A small once coppiced wood. Predominantly Hazel, for making hurdles and woven wattles when the Freedown was grazed by sheep. The wood provided more than just fencing materials. Look at the pdf file in History to find out a little more.
Here are some spring time photos of the Woods in 2003.
The wood is now maintained by the National Trust.
Tree Vandalism - June 2004 The Parish Council have received a letter from the National Trust regarding vandalism to trees. The removal of Ivy (Hedera helix) from trees is a debatable subject and one of personal opinion. click HERE for pdf
